MRI and MR Angiographic findings in childhood moyamoya disease

Abstract
PURPOSE:
@EN To evaluate the value of MRI and MR Angiography in moyamoya disease.
@ES MATERIALS AND METHODS:
@EN Between May and August 1995, three patients with childhood moyamoya disease were studied with MRI and 3-dimensional Time-of-Flight(TOF) MR Angiography. Cranial MR scanning was performed with a 1.0T superconducting magnet in all patients.
@ES RESULTS:
@EN In all patients, occlusion or stenosis in the supraclinoid portion of the ICA and in the proximal portions of the ACA and MCA was detected bilaterally. MR Angiography was successful in allowing detection of occlusive disease of distal
portions
of
ICAs and moyamoya vessels.
@ES CONCLUSION:
@EN MRI and 3-dimensional TOF MR Angiography is simple, safe and useful diagnostic method in moyamoya disease.
